About Us
Back Designs began as a professional provider of ergonomic furniture and orthopedic products, founded in 1984 by physical therapist Eileen Vollowitz. For 20 great years, Back Designs provided expert fitting services and a wide range of ergonomic furniture and healthcare products to customers in the San Francisco Bay Area. We closed our retail operation in 2003.
Back Designs continues to provide fitting services by appointment from our warehouse location and to sell high-quality ergonomic and healthcare products through our ecommerce website. However, the range of products we offer is different than it once was as our focus has changed.
Our new mission is to develop an information database for the prescription and fitting of ergonomic furniture and back care products, in cooperation with Vollowitz's new venture, Ergotalk. Many of the Learning Center Articles on our website were contributed by Ergotalk. Our goal is to support resellers and consumers with sound advice and expert product reviews.
