Physical therapist Eileen Vollowitz opened the Back Designs retail store in Berkeley, California in 1984. For 20 great years we provided expert ergonomic fitting services using the novel fitting and prescription methods that she developed. Back Designs grew to become the largest single-location retail ergonomics product supply and back store in North America, offering the widest selection of top-of-the-line and hard-to-find ergonomic furniture and healthcare products available anywhere.
Back Designs was a pioneer in the "back store" business and became the most respected provider of ergonomic furniture and comfort products in the country. We closed our retail operation in 2003 continued Back Designs primarily in an eCommerce venue.

Today Back Designs offers high-quality ergonomic and healthcare products through our website. We also provide fitting services by appointment from our warehouse location for customers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Our "showroom" today is in an office a fraction the size of our old retail store, so the products we have available for fitting and trial is more focused. Feel free to
